Chequers or draughts?
Abstract macro of one of my favourite spring flowers, the Snake's Head Fritillary/Fritillaria meleagris. Taken with a Canon 400D and Tamron SP90 macro lens plus extension tubes. More information here:

I am baffled as to how these flowers were bred to be checkerboard. Some year I will plant some.

I always enjoy your macros - they always really focus on one particular aspect of the depcited flower. Those textures and patterns in the shot... just great :)
